Following the circulation of the video, an FIR was registered in Mahoba district against Ajay Rai, former Congress committee secretary Brijraj Ahirwar, and around 30 unidentified Congress supporters. The case reportedly relates to alleged derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister and alleged disturbance of public order during a political gathering held on May 22.

According to reports, the complaint was filed after the video surfaced online. The incident quickly triggered a sharp reaction from the Bharatiya Janata Party, with party leaders accusing the Congress of lowering the standard of political discourse.

BJP national spokesperson C.R. Kesavan strongly criticised the alleged remarks and described them as “inexcusable and unforgivable.” He also attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that such behaviour reflected the kind of political culture being encouraged within the party.

The controversy has added fresh heat to the already tense political atmosphere between the BJP and Congress. The BJP has sought to frame the incident as an example of disrespect toward the office of the Prime Minister, while Congress leaders are expected to defend Rai and question the intent behind the case.

Ajay Rai, however, has pushed back against the allegations. He claimed that the case was politically motivated and accused the BJP-led government of trying to divert attention from other serious issues. Rai also alleged that an AI-generated video was being circulated to suppress the truth.

The claim of an AI-generated video has added another dimension to the controversy. In recent months, political parties have increasingly accused each other of using edited or AI-generated content to influence public opinion. This incident may therefore become part of a larger debate on digital misinformation, political propaganda and responsible online campaigning.

The FIR also comes at a time when political messaging is becoming more aggressive across parties.
