Reports over the past few days had indicated that the race for the Chief Minister’s post had narrowed to three key names — V.D. Satheesan, K.C. Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala. Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi were involved in consultations before the final call.

Satheesan’s elevation marks a major political moment for the UDF government. As Leader of the Opposition, he had played a visible role in challenging the previous LDF government and positioning the Congress as the main alternative in the state.

His supporters see him as a strong legislative voice, a sharp communicator and a leader capable of projecting a cleaner, more aggressive Congress style in Kerala.
